Spreading the gospel of open banking has a nice thing about it: you get to travel the world, meet extremely smart fintech entrepreneurs and experience the future of banking first-hand. Among the key elements of our evangelisation effort are hackathons. On a regular basis, we organise innovation events which gather bright entrepreneur, developers and designers for 54 hour-marathons of innovation and software building. Hackathons are an amazing way to build a developer community, learn from your peers and acquire constructive feedback about which APIs to build.

In November, we are organising our 32nd fintech hackathon. This time it’s happening in South Korea and is open to startups from around the world. For this edition, we are privileged to work with 2e & JB Financial Group, one of Asia’s the leading financial institutions.

The ‘Quantum Leap’ hackathon is the second organised by the JB Financial Group, and the first to be aimed at an international audience. We are excited that participants will use Open Bank Project technology to develop and then showcase a quantum leap in financial technology innovation. Significantly for small businesses, JB Financial Group has expressed a commitment to go market with the winning startups and to help scale the winners in five Asian countries, in a repeat of their successful strategy with the winner of last year’s hackathon.

The competition is structured in two parts:

  • Online Application phase: the entry phase is online, opening on October 1st and closing on October 20th 2016. Fill in a simple online form to express your interest and demonstrate your solution.
  • Hackathon Final phase: from the online entries, selected finalists will be invited in person to present their innovative ideas to senior bank management in Seoul between November 28-30th 2016. The final competition winner will be announced on the last day.

The hackathon winners will enjoy the following 1) KRW 3 million as first prize, 2) a test bed for commercialization, 3) immediate discussions with relevant business divisions within the JB Financial Group and 4) additional funding for selected participants.

This competition is open to all fintech startups – whether you are an individual or a team, whether you have an idea or a working prototype, whether you are in Asia or elsewhere – everyone is welcome! Deadline is October 20th – Apply now at  https://www.f6s.com/jbfghackathon2016
