For: bank API teams, product owners, developers · API Explorer: Create API Product An API Product turns a group of endpoints into a plan. You choose which endpoints it covers, how many calls a subscriber gets, and what it costs. Banks can then offer free, freemium and premium tiers from one interface instead of managing access case by case. What it does An API Product sits on top of an API Collection, which is a named group of endpoints for one use case. The product adds the commercial layer: Endpoints: linked to one Collection. Pricing: a monthly subscription amount and currency. Limits: call limits per second, minute, hour, day, week and month. Tiers: a parent product code lets you build hierarchies, such as Basic, Pro and Enterprise. Details: description, category, tags, terms and conditions URL, more-info URL, and custom attributes. Who it's for Business and product teams Define plans and prices without code. Decide which partners can self-subscribe and which you enrol yourself. Feature products in the Portal for developers to browse. Developers Browse products and see what each plan includes before building. Subscribe an app to a plan and get its limits straight away. Read the same product data through the API. How it works 1. Group the endpoints. Create an API Collection for the use case. 2. Create the product. Link the Collection, set the price, limits and attributes. 3. Market the product. Fintechs and Developers won’t subscribe to a product they can’t find. Create a marketing page for your API Products and either create a selection process or make them self service. Monitor KPIs and iterate, just as you would a regular product. Bootstrap in one click: The Bootstrap Reference Journeys page creates ready-made Collections and Products for common commercial banking journeys, such as Personal Financial Insights and SME Cash-Flow Cockpit. You can edit everything afterwards. Key benefits and uses The benefits of treating your API as a product are now well-known in the financial services industry. Nonetheless, here’s a refresher: Key benefits Offer free, freemium and premium tiers from one place. Set quotas per plan across six time windows. Change plans without a code release. Keep pricing and billing separate: OBP enforces access, and your billing system can handle payment. See usage per app in the API Manager. Start from a reference set instead of an empty catalogue. Example Use Cases A free sandbox tier plus a paid production tier of the same Collection. A premium data product (beyond regulation) for fintechs, priced monthly. A partner-only product that the bank can enrol manually. A reference product like Personal Financial Insights, started from Bootstrap and adjusted. Try it! Test it yourself! Open your API Manager, create an API Collection, and set up your first API product. Or, run Bootstrap to start from reference journeys. Need to work out which plan fits your current catalogue?
